IQOS uses sophisticated electronics to heat specially prepared and blended tobacco. IQOS heats the tobacco just enough to release a flavourful nicotine-containing vapour but without burning the tobacco.
This foil wrapping is used for purely technical reasons. This does not affect the volume of vapour generated by IQOS. Like all components used in tobacco sticks, the new wrapping has been carefully analysed by Philip Morris International (PMI) to assess its suitability for use, and no harmful substances released during the use with IQOS have been identified.
The amount of aluminium used in tobacco sticks is very low. Therefore neither the accidental ingestion of a tobacco stick nor the regular inhalation of the vapour represent any toxicological risk.
